The mission of Harbor Audiology & Hearing Services Inc. is to provide superior hearing health and rehabilitative care to all patients and ensure quality of service. Our goal is to educate and offer the opportunity to choose what is best for the individual and their family. The needs of all patients are met with respect and integrity.
We Educate Our Patients
One big part of what we do at Harbor Audiology and Hearing Services Inc. is to educate each and every one of our patients, so that they are better able to cope with whatever hearing condition they have, and so that no further hearing loss is incurred. We consider patient education to be one of our primary goals, because whereas patients might visit us once a year, they are out in the world being affected by noise and sounds every other day of the year.
That makes it important that they understand how to manage all those noises that they come in contact with routinely, so that their hearing is not degraded. Once a patient understands how to protect themselves against potential damage to their hearing, they will be better equipped to avoid hearing loss in the future. When any of our patients comes in for a consultation or hearing check, one of our audiologists will take the time to explain exactly what has happened, and the likely reason for whatever has occurred.
Then they will recommend ways that such situations can be avoided in the future, so that no further damage occurs. It’s also important that patients develop appropriate coping mechanisms to manage whatever kind of hearing damage or loss has occurred, so they don’t become frustrated and agitated about it.
One great example of this is coping with tinnitus, which involves either an intermittent or constant ringing in the ears. Without using proper coping mechanisms, this can be so distracting that it can come to dominate your life, and it can interfere with virtually every aspect of your daily routine. With proper education and training, any patient can learn to overcome such issues, and to maintain their good quality of life with hearing aids and other services.
Please note that we are not able to assist patients under the age of 5.
